Understanding Teacher Report Visibility
Teacher reports in simpldiscipline may look different from one school or district to another. This is expected behavior and is controlled by visibility settings configured by your school or district administrators.
These settings determine what data a teacher can see when viewing reports.
Default Teacher Visibility: By default, teachers only have access to the data they personally documented for a student.
This means reports will include only:
•Discipline incidents submitted by the teacher
•Minor infractions submitted by the teacher
•Positive referrals submitted by the teacher
•Notes entered by the teacher
If this default setting is in place, reports will not display information entered by other teachers, administrators, or staff members, even if the student is currently in the teacher’s class unless that teacher is listed as a submitter/reporter in the incident.
Expanded Visibility (Optional Setting): Some schools or districts choose to enable expanded visibility for teachers.
When this option is turned on, teachers may see additional data in certain report components for students they currently teach, including entries submitted by other staff members.
Expanded visibility can be enabled:
•For all categories or only specific areas (discipline incidents, minor infractions, positive referrals, and notes)
Because these settings are configurable, a teacher may see expanded data in one report but not another. On reports where teachers have more access, they will see data submitted by all staff members for the students they teach.
Filtering to View Only Your Own Data If a teacher has access to all data within a report area, they can still choose to view only the information they personally submitted.
To do this, use the Teacher/Submitter filter and select your own name. This will limit the report results to entries you documented, even when expanded visibility is enabled.
Why Reports May Look Different
If two teachers compare reports and see different results, it is typically due to:
•Differences in school or district visibility settings
•Partial visibility being enabled for some report components but not others
These settings are intentionally flexible to support different reporting needs while maintaining appropriate access controls.
If you have questions about what you can see in a specific report, contact your school or district administrator for clarification on your visibility settings.
