simpldiscipline can automatically notify users when a student is assigned a disciplinary action that appears on the incident calendar (such as suspensions, lunch detentions, etc.). When a disciplinary action is added to a student’s record and is configured to display on the calendar, simpldiscipline checks the student’s schedule and automatically sends an alert email to all of the student’s current teachers.

This feature helps ensure teachers are kept informed without requiring administrators to manually send notifications or relying on staff to regularly check the incident calendar.

By default, this feature is turned on for all users with rostered courses. These users will automatically receive alerts for all configured calendar-based disciplinary actions.

Teachers can customize their alert settings to:
  • Exclude specific types of disciplinary actions
  • Exclude alerts for specific courses or class sections

By default, this feature is disabled for users with the roles of Reviewer, Reviewer – Read Only, Reviewer – Truancy Center Only, Super Admin, and users with the ability to View All Calendar Events . However, these users can enable and configure alerts as needed.

These preferences can be updated anytime within the My Preferences page.

When this preference is enabled, users can choose to:
  • Only receive e-mail notifications for students in a specific grade level
  • Only receive e-mail notifications for students within a last name range
  • Only receive notifications for selected class sections (default for teachers).

By default, notifications are enabled for all active classes/sections and calendar event types. Users can opt out of specific classes or event types by clicking the “X” in the dialog box. As new classes or sections become active (e.g., at the start of a new school year, quarter, or semester), they are automatically added to the notification list. Similarly, any newly added calendar event types are enabled by default.

Filters based on grade level or last name range take priority over course section preferences. For example, if a user chooses to receive notifications for the English course but sets their preferences to only receive emails for students with last names beginning with S–Z, they will only receive notifications for John Smith—not Jane Doe—even though both students are enrolled in the same course. Jane Doe would be excluded because her last name falls outside the specified range.
