Editing incidents

If an incident has already been synced to the student information system, but you need to make changes, you can edit the incident in the Reviewer area. This article walks you through the process of editing the incident.

Entering edit mode

Incidents can be edited once they have been successfully synced to the student information system. If an incident still shows Sync pending, make sure to wait until it successfully syncs before attempting to edit it.

Once the sync is complete, navigate to the incident and click Edit incident to begin the edit process.

Once you enter edit mode, the incident will remain in an editable state until it is saved. You can step away and come back to this process if needed, but keep in mind that no changes will occur until you save the incident.

After entering edit mode, you will be presented with the approval process again that will allow you to modify or change behavior and action codes.

If you need to change existing incident details, such as incident title or description, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the appropriate incident element dropdown to view its details and edit each element by clicking on the pencil edit button.

Saving / updating an incident

Once all of your changes are made, click Update incident at the bottom of the page to begin the update process.

simpldiscipline will automatically detect if any attendance changes have occurred during the edit process and will prompt to alert you to any changes.

There are two types of changes, attendance reconciliation and orphaned attendance.

Attendance reconciliation

simpldiscipline will cross-reference the current attendance records in the student information system with the revised incident suspension dates in simpldiscipline.

If simpldiscipline originally recorded attendance, such as suspensions, (e.g. an In-School Suspension) for specific dates, and those entries are no longer present in the updated incident records, the school administrator will receive a prompt to select new attendance entries for those corresponding dates.

Any attendance changes made here will be automatically synced to the student information system.

Example: A student has an in-school suspension (ISS) on 12/13/2023. During the edit process, an administrator updates the ISS date to 12/15/2023. The administrator can now mark the student as present, or absent, on 12/13/2023, within simpldiscipline.

Orphaned attendance

Orphaned attendance are any attendance records that were set by simpldiscipline but are either no longer in the student information system or have been changed manually.

simpldiscipline only notifies administrators that these exist. Since they were changed manually, outside of simpldiscipline, if any changes need to occur, the administrator should do this within the SIS.

Once an incident has been saved / updated, the incident will automatically resync to the student information system, and automatically reapply attendance entries. This process can take up to 24 hours, but will typically occur within 5-10 minutes.
